The Ghana Logistics and Transport Awards (GLOTA), an awards scheme conceptualized to reward excellence and outstanding achievements in the transport and logistics sector of the nation’s economy has been launched.

The award event is being organized by Drive 5 Ghana Ltd., a PR and Events firm in conjunction with Adams 360 and Eves Media, and with support from the Ministry of Transport, the Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders (GIFF) and an endorsement form the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT).

Shedding more light on the reasons for coming up with such an award scheme, Don Obilor, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the awards states “the awards, besides promoting excellence in the sector, also seeks to promote and attract private investments into Ghana’s transport and logistics sector, a move which ties in with Government’s efforts to effectively tap into the vast resources available to the private sector towards the nation’s economic development.”

“Our duty as enablers of development is to create a system to reward and by so doing encourage more private participation in the various sectors of the nation’s development, especially the transport and logistics sector which draws a huge chunk of government’s resources” Don adds.

As part of efforts to ensure the integrity of the awards, a board of trustees headed by Mrs. Emma Ocran, an astute legal practitioner and the Director of Legal Affairs of the National Insurance Commission (NIC) has been set up to provide direction and advice to the organizing committee.

Other members of the board include Mr. Kwabena Agyekum, President of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIMG) and Mr. Senah Vuley, General Manager of DDP.

The maiden awards event is slated for the first quarter 2018 and it will bring all the major players in the sector as well as other key players in the country’s development under one umbrella.
