The management of the Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC) has dismissed as false the claims made by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Oforikrom Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Michael Kwasi Aidoo, regarding maintenance works at the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region.

On Thursday, August 28, 2025, the MP posted on his official Facebook page that the routine maintenance works at the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant had been unsuccessful, leaving the facility offline.

In a sharp response, the Head of Corporate Affairs of GNGC, Richard Ernest Kirk Mensah, refuted the claims and emphasised that the Atuabo Gas Plant is fully operational.

“We wish to state categorically that these reports are false and misleading. The maintenance exercise was successfully completed ahead of schedule and in strict conformity with international safety and operational standards,” he stated.

He further added, “The plant has since been restarted and is operating safely. This can be verified by our upstream and downstream partners. We have been delivering sales gas to our major downstream consumers since yesterday, 27th August 2025.”

Mensah assured that the company remains committed to ensuring a stable energy supply.

“Ghana Gas assures all stakeholders and the general public that the Atuabo GPP is in optimal condition and continues to deliver a reliable gas supply to power producers and industrial users, thereby safeguarding national energy stability.”

Meanwhile, in the early hours of Friday, August 29, 2025, Daniel Kaku, a resident of the area, visited the plant site at Atuabo and confirmed that the gas processing facility was operating as usual.

The attention of the Management of Ghana National Gas Limited Company (GNGLC) has been drawn to a post circulating on the Facebook page of the NPP honourable member of parliament for Oforikrom constituency in the Ashanti region, which has since been shared widely across social and traditional media.

The post claims that the planned maintenance shutdown of the Atuabo Gas Processing Plant (GPP) was unsuccessful and that the facility remains offline.

We wish to state categorically that these reports are false and misleading. The maintenance exercise was successfully completed ahead of schedule and in strict conformity with international safety and operational standards.

The plant has since been restarted and is operating safely. This can be verified from our upstream and downstream partners. We have been delivering sales gas to our major downstream consumers since yesterday, 27th August 2025.

Planned Maintenance Program, Delivered Results

The key planned shutdown maintenance works included calibration of Safety Systems, Overhaul of the main transmission compressor, servicing of the Heat medium system, and replacement of the Heat Medium System fluid as per the OEM requirements and recommendations.

Over the years, a restart-up of the plant after a major shutdown has lasted a minimum of 14days.

However, in the 2025 plant shutdown, a restart-up of five days has been achieved.

A feat that should be commended as a demonstration of improved planning, efficiency, and technical excellence.
