The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has inaugurated a new Board of Directors for the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR), with a charge to urgently restore the refinery to full operational capacity.
The inauguration, held on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, marks a major step toward reviving one of Ghana’s key energy institutions, which has been plagued by years of financial and operational challenges.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony in Accra, John Jinapor emphasised the refinery’s strategic importance to the country’s energy security.
“Your foremost duty is to get TOR back on stream. You must implement bold and strategic actions to return the refinery to profitability. TOR is not just another company; it is a vital national asset,” the sector minister stated.
He called on the new board to work with urgency and commitment, noting that the government expects a comprehensive roadmap to address TOR’s challenges and reposition it as a key player in Ghana’s energy mix.
Chairman of the newly appointed board, Nayon Bilijo, thanked the President for the confidence placed in them and pledged the board’s dedication to meeting the task ahead.
“We are honoured by this appointment and understand the enormity of the task ahead. We will work with urgency and dedication to revive TOR and make it a viable and efficient institution once more,” he said.
