The Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited, (GWL) Adam Mutawakilu, says the company has made significant progress in its crackdown on illegal water connections in Accra.
Speaking after an inspection tour on May 11, 2026, he disclosed that over 375 customers have so far been identified for illegal connections since August 2025.
“We have identified about over 375 customers who have done illegal connection only in Accra from August to date. As at last week Friday, it was 397. But as we go, every day they are developing,” he noted.

On enforcement measures, he warned that offenders will face strict action.
“One is for them to come and pay the outstanding. If you are not willing to pay, then court process starts. They will take you off from benefiting from the water until all liabilities are settled,” he stated.
Adam Mutawakilu further disclosed the financial impact of the exercise.
“We have been able to accrue about GH¢16 million and so far recovered about GH¢3.7 million,” he added.
The exercise forms part of efforts by GWL to curb illegal connections and improve revenue collection.
