The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has urged the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to rationalise Ghana's tax system, calling for fairness and transparency across the board.

In an exclusive interview with GhanaWeb Business on Friday, August 22, 2025, the Director of Communications at GUTA, Joseph Paddy, said Ghana's current tax system lacks uniformity, creating avenues for people to cheat and exploit loopholes.

"But when some are paying today, others tomorrow, some not at all, and others are paying different rates, there is no parity. If they are going to undertake rationalisation, we welcome that idea. So, we are waiting to hear what exactly the GRA has done on that subject," he stated.

Rationalising Ghana's tax regime

Paddy welcomed the government’s plan to rationalise the tax regime and introduce a modified taxation system aimed at streamlining and revising thresholds for businesses.

"They are going to make some modifications in our tax system by lifting the threshold so that those below it will fall under the modified taxation programme. We look forward to that, and we also call for a meeting to contribute to those policies and programmes," he added.
