GT launches new product for consumers

Tema, April 27, GNA - Ghana Telecom (GT) on Thursday introduced a new prepaid product christened "GT easyfone prepaid telephony Maxi" targeted at business and communication operators. The new system replaces the old post paid lines where consumers used the product and are provided with itemized bill at the end of each month.

Meanwhile users, who intend to maintain the old post-paid system can do so but would still have the opportunity to hook unto the new product on their own choice.

Mr Richard Teye Yehuno, GT Regional Manager, who launched the product in Tema, said with the Maxi a special account profile with pre-loaded credit would be attached to the line. "All phone calls made with the maxi line are charged against the credit in the account, as a result no bill will be generated for the account", he said.

He noted that the account was additionally protected automatically with special 'PIN' of the customers choice hence no more surprises for subscribers or bad debts for service providers. The Maxi provides a special 600,000 recharge credit designed for the prepared account which a special bonus or incentives had been attached that would be enjoyed by the commercial operators and resellers when consumption or reload is done within a specified period. Mr Yehuno stated that GT intended to offer many more products and services tailored strictly to meet the varied need of the clients. "We know that disputes our residential customers, especially, have had with our billing system and other related challenges shook their confidence in us", he said.

He was optimistic that the easyfone prepaid and its attached benefits would not only win back the confidence of the existing customers but also increase the customer base by bringing on board several other potential ones, who awaited GT to put its house in order. Mr Kingsford Amoako of the Tema Municipal Assembly said the introduction of the product was timely, as it would cut down protracted domestic call, indiscriminate use of phones for unwholesome purposes since the usage could be controlled.

He urged the management of GT to come up with more of such innovation to make the telecommunication sector competitive. The easyfone Maxi is described as convenient, post no bill, provide security and could be controlled by the user. 27 April 06
