Correspondence from the Bono Region
The Ghana Revenue Authority office in the Bono Region has shut down X-Wan Mining Services Limited, a quarry operating site at Ayaayo in the Wenchi Municipality, for defaulting on tax payments to the tune of GH¢3.5 million.
The exercise was carried out by the Sunyani GRA Tax Payer Service Centre of the Domestic Tax Revenue Division in collaboration with the Area Enforcement Unit, following the failure of the Chinese-owned company to settle its debt despite several reminders from the GRA.
According to the Sunyani GRA Tax Service Centre Manager, Charles Antwi Boasiako, the company failed to pay a principal tax amount of GH¢6,538,329.60 from 2020 to 2022, resulting in accrued interest of GH¢2,783,764.92, increasing the total debt owed to the state to GH¢9,322,094.52.
Charles Antwi Boasiako revealed that the company negotiated a 12-month payment plan in 2023 to settle all its debts by February 2024, but the company failed to stick to the payment schedule agreed upon by both parties, despite several attempts, leading to the closure.
“A liability was established for them to pay. Subsequently, they requested and wrote to the GRA commissioner general that they could not pay the entire liability at a go, and so they wanted a payment schedule in instalments. This was communicated to them in response to the request in April 2022,” he said.

He emphasised that the closure of the company, which underscores GRA’s commitment to enforcing fiscal responsibility and accountability, will remain firmly in effect until the company fully complies with its tax obligations by settling all outstanding debts owed to the state.
“We will maintain strict surveillance over the company to ensure that it remains completely shut down and does not engage in any form of operation until it has paid its debt. Our monitoring efforts will be continuous and uncompromising, and only when the full amount of the tax arrears has been settled will the company be permitted to resume full operations”.
He urged all businesses operating within the region that have failed to fulfil their tax obligations to take immediate steps to regularise their status with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), since any business found to be non-compliant would face severe consequences.
