GPHA introduces 3 new shore handling companies to stakeholders

The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority has licensed 3 new shore handling companies. The companies are Modedees, Ocean Line limited and Crown Container Services Limited.

The companies will take over the rendering of receipt storage and delivery services at the Tema Port.

At an engagement to introduce the new companies to stakeholders, including shipping lines, customs and freight forwarders, the Monitoring Manager for GPHA, Nii Nii-Koi Amasa expressed that the new companies have been licensed to take over from GPHA who have been rendering the service in the interim.

He also stated that operation for these three companies commenced on the 22nd of January 2018. “New companies have been licensed to carry on the services that were been provided by Red Sea Maritime Services. It is just very fair that you as stakeholders and shipping lines, freight forwarders, customs, should know who GPHA has officially licensed to operate, to interact with them,” he said.

Jimmy-Nab Daisie, the Fire and Safety Manager, admonished the new companies to exercise a high adherence to safety regulations to make sure unfortunate incidence in the port remains absent. “This time round we all need to collaborate to prevent incidents and accidents from happening,” he charged.

The Port Security Manager, Joseph Punamane charged the new companies to follow security procedures very keenly.

“Most of them come into the port to do the wrong things. It is wrong, so pilfering and stealing would not be accepted in the port,” he warned.

Garvin Amavi, Corporate Monitoring Manager who is also the ISO Coordinator for GPHA, entreated the new operators to comply with International Standards of operations.

“We have come out with occupational health and safety manual in the policy of the organisation, GPHA. We are going to roll it out and everybody would have to comply,” he said.
