GPHA/CHEC sign Agreement on Takoradi Port Infrastructure Development Project

The Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority (GPHA) on Friday signed an agreement with the China Harbor engineering Company (CHEC) for work to begin on the first phase of the 150-million-dollar Takoradi Port Infrastructure Development Project.

Mr. Richard Anamoo, Director-General of GPHA signed for the Authority, while Mr. Yang Tao, Country Manager of CHEC, initialed for the company. The Chinese Company would carry out 60 per cent of work on the project, while a number of Ghanaian companies would undertake 40 per cent of it.

The first and second phases of the project totaling 344 million dollars would be executed within two years.

Speaking to newsmen after the signing ceremony, Mr. Anamoo said the project would see the provision of essential facilities at the Takoradi Port including the construction of access roads.

He said when completed, the Project would lift the Takoradi Port to greater heights.

Mr. Yang expressed optimism that the project would create avenues for local employment.
