The Ghana Community Network Services, GCNet and the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) have launched an upgraded version of the food and drugs authority pharmaceutical market information.

The upgrade relates to software changes undertaken to capture detailed information on medicines that are imported into the country with specific reference to the product name, the molecule name among others.

The food and drugs authority pharmaceutical market information database serves as a critical reference resource point for users for registration and clearing of products and industry stakeholders to access key data for planning and decision-making at the policy level.

The process also involves the capturing of relevant data on pharmaceutical products to make it useful to users and stakeholders.

The Operations Manager of GCNet, Jonathan Ofori expressed optimism that the upgrade of the Food and Drugs Authority pharmaceutical market information will improve service delivery offered to declarants.

“The end use is that there will be a faster turnaround time for processing or approval of FDA permit because it limits the verification and classification aspect from the process,” he said.

Other benefits, according to him are got to do with statistical impact “in terms of how they can use this data, they will be able to tell whether by antibiotics or any other kind of drug form to proper split them down and analyze this data for some management decision taking and for investment option as well.”

The event was attended by officials of the customs division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, regulatory agencies and declarants.
