GCB Earmarks 3.1 Billion Cedis For Exporters From North

Tamale (Northern Region) 2 Dec. '97 The Ghana Commercial Bank Ltd. (GCB) has committed 3.1 billion cedis as credit to support non-traditional exporters in the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions. The bank has also raised its general credit facilities by 100 per cent this year, Mr. E.N. Osei-Nkrumah, area manager in charge of the Northern region disclosed in Tamale at the weekend.

He was speaking at a durbar of the GCB ladies association and representatives of women's groups to explain some fiscal policies of the bank. Mr.. Osei-Nkrumah asked entrepreneurs in the three regions to take advantage of the enabling business atmosphere to venture especially into the export sector.

He advised women to do business with the banks to enable them to benefit from the credit facilities. Miss Comfort Abbey, President of the association said there is a loan package from the central bank to support women entrepreneurs, adding that they can only benefit from it by doing business with the banks. She urged the management of the GCB to create a special dest to deal with issues relating to female customers. gri
