The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced the deployment of new state-of-the-art security screening equipment at passenger checkpoints at Terminals 2 and 3 of the Accra International Airport.
The company, in a statement issued on July 12, 2026, said the upgrade is aimed at enhancing aviation security while improving convenience and reducing processing times for passengers.
According to GACL, the new equipment will allow passengers to keep certain items in their cabin baggage during screening, eliminating some of the procedures previously required at security checkpoints.

“Laptops and other large electronic devices can now remain in your cabin baggage during screening,” the company stated.
Passengers will also no longer be required to remove their shoes and belts during screening unless instructed to do so as part of security profiling.
The new system also allows travellers to keep Liquids, Aerosols and Gels (LAGs) in their cabin baggage during screening, although restrictions on containers exceeding 100ml remain in force.
“Passengers can now keep Liquids, Aerosols and Gels (LAGs) in their cabin baggage during screening as separate screening of LAGs may not be required,” GACL said.
The company added that an Automatic Tray Return System has also been introduced to improve efficiency by allowing trays to be returned quickly to passengers for repacking of screened items.
GACL explained that the migration to the new screening system will be carried out gradually in phases, alongside existing security procedures and equipment.
“Migration onto the new system will be done progressively or in phases and alongside the existing procedures and equipment,” the company said.
The Airports Company has urged passengers and other stakeholders to cooperate as the new equipment is introduced and becomes fully operational in the coming days.
The upgrade forms part of ongoing efforts to modernise facilities at the Accra International Airport and improve the overall travel experience for passengers.
