The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has handed over 1,000 water pumps seized from illegal mining sites to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture for irrigation purposes.

According to Mamud Kabore, spokesperson for the Minister of Lands, the initiative aims not only to combat illegal mining but also to support agriculture.

He explained that the Ministry obtained court approval through the Attorney General before distributing the seized pumps, ensuring the process is legally sound and avoids potential legal battles.

Speaking on Kumasi-based OTEC 102.9 FM’s afternoon political show Dwabrem on Friday, Kabore added that the Ministry also plans to repurpose seized excavators for the District Road Improvement Program (DRIP) to enhance road infrastructure.

This move, he said, will not only tackle illegal mining but also contribute to the development of the country’s road network.

The government has vowed to employ pragmatic strategies in its fight against illegal mining and is calling on the public for support. By taking these measures, it aims to protect the environment, promote agriculture, and improve infrastructure.
