The Acting Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), James Klutse Avedzi, has praised the consistency and dedication of the late Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, describing him as someone who defended his position regardless of external pressure.
Speaking to GhanaWeb Business on August 8, 2025, Avedzi recounted his extensive working relationship with Dr Murtala over the past eight years, both within Parliament and on key committees.
"If somebody defends his position, no matter what kind of pressure you put on him, he will defend his position as it is. I have worked with him for eight good years, not only as a Member of Parliament but as a member of my committee. When I was the chairman of the Finance Committee, he was a member of my committee for four years. Then he lost the election and came back after winning another election. Then he became a member of my committee when I also became the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee. So we worked very closely," he said.
James Avedzi detailed their working relationship, citing how closely they sat in meetings and travelled together.
"I travelled with him to Liberia. We travelled together throughout the whole country. We've been in Tamale, Sunyani, Takoradi, working all along," he shared.
He also revealed that Murtala had once promised to lead all Public Accounts Committee members appointed as ministers by President John Mahama to visit him at the Securities and Exchange Commission.
