Following the announcement of a new “value increase” in DStv packages for Ghanaian subscribers by the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam George, on September 29, 2025, social media, particularly X, has been awash with comments and mixed reactions from Ghanaians regarding the development.
According to Sam George, effective October 1, 2025, existing DStv subscribers will automatically be upgraded to higher-tier channel packages at no additional cost.
He explained that customers will receive between 33% and 50% more value in channels and services.
DStv subscription packages in Ghana set for major value upgrade
For example, subscribers on the Padi Bouquet, priced at GH¢59, will automatically be upgraded to the Access Bouquet, valued at GH¢99, with an additional 35 channels.
The announcement has since sparked a wave of online reactions, with many users expressing concerns and frustrations over the minister’s statement.
Below are some reactions on X
Sam George has successfully negotiated an extended promo with DSTV. That’s all.

Is there a temporary relief for many subscribers? Yes, but that’s what promos offer.
Have package prices been reduced? No, DSTV confirms that prices remain the same.
The Minister vs DSTV was about…
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

You have been played bro. Free promo for DSTV.
To be honest, this feels like telling us you were going to bring waakye prices down, only to come back saying the leaf is now bigger, so the price stays the same. We asked for cheaper waakye, not extra shito. Value is great but price reduction was the promise. This is a U-turn.
— Prince Osei (@piennoforever) September 29, 2025
We didn't ask for more channels. We asked for a price reduction.

So after all the noise about dstv, Sam George couldn’t do anything better lol.

The question is: Was Sam George fighting for price reduction?
— CYBHOY ✋🏽😎🤚🏽 (@cybhoy) September 29, 2025
If yes, then he achieved that. It's only the gullible that sees it the other way around. pic.twitter.com/VHQ1lROWa9
I can't defend Sam George again after finding out how the new Dstv deals are..👐 pic.twitter.com/Tq4lPYsk7H

— Iron Boy (@NYboateng) September 29, 2025
Your Minister ended up helping DSTV to take away the price you enjoyed by using DSTV Nigeria packages. Bro, he spoil the matter 🤣😂
— yaw. (@yabbanx) September 29, 2025
The DSTV guys got free promo from the sector minister.
— Sewing Machine 🇬🇭 🇳🇬 (@BTLizle) September 29, 2025
Solid marketing strategy.
This promo is something they have been running for some time now but now they got a whole sector minister to read it out freely no paid advert. Mr. Dzata has been played. Nothing reduced.…
You pay the same price but more added useless DSTV channels. Enjoy 🤣
— yaw. (@yabbanx) September 29, 2025
Haha, DSTV dey play us like that—prices steady since March hike, just add channels to feel generous? Stick with your Naija decoder, e go save you stress!
— Lord_Of_Repost (@BaleMrMoreFire) September 30, 2025
But I thought they mentioned reducing the price?
— Plateau Asian girl🌟 (@CatiaKyen) September 30, 2025
Gyatabruwaa Sam George is the first minister to be employed by DSTV to be their spokesperson 🤦♀️ people need price reduction and you’re giving them step up promo. Sam George always wants to be heard for the obvious reason. Bro sit up o. The play is too much😏 pic.twitter.com/qOKwh5fuK9
