The John Mahama-led Administration (even in the midst of the election petition case before the Supreme Court which has cast a gloom over the nation) continues to push successfully on many fronts to boost the nation’s fledging economy with the creation of more jobs.
And, one organization that is bent on making the Administration’s endeavours a success is the Ghana Free Zone Board(GfZB) At the just ended Africa Global and Economic Summit in the United States of America, the GFZB embarked on an ambitious drive to woo investors into the country to establish companies in its Free Zones enclave. It was a successful aggressive drive led by its Executive Secretary, Kwodwo Twum-Boafo which resulted in the facilitation of bilateral agreement with some companies in the Diaspora.
Briefing the media last Friday about the successful investment drive, the Investor Support Services Manager, Hajia Hanatu Abubakar revealed that many of the companies that have decided to come down to do business in Ghana expressed interest in especially the Energy Sector, i.e, power generation and transportation. She revealed that Ghana’s political stability and democratic credentials made Ghana a preferred investment destination in Africa for many of the investors in the Diaspora.
The Head of the legal Department of the GFZB, Mrs. Kate Abbeo explained that many more companies have registered to operate in the Free Zones enclave within the period under review compared to the same period last year. This, she says, shows the soaring confidence investors have in the country under President Mahama.
“Just this year alone, we have had 23 big companies with capital investment of US$789,271,323.77 come on board. This is an indication of the level of confidence investors have in Ghana,” she added.
The inflow of investors into the country, especially into the manufacturing sector of the economy is expected to create much needed jobs in the country and raise the quality of life of Ghanaians. Officials of the GFZB say many more investment drives will be taking place during the year in line with President Mahama’s vision of creating thousands of needed jobs for Ghanaians.
