First Tatale/Sanguli one village, one dam begins in Sachilbo

A minimum of 10 dams would be constructed in the Tatale-Sanguli District of the Northern Region in line with government’s flagship policy of ‘One Village, One Dam.

Work on one out of the number has already began at Sanchilbo in the district at the cost of GH¢250,000.00 with 8,000 cubic metre volume capacity when completed by the end of the year.

Mr Thomas Mbomba, the Tatale/Sanguli District Chief Executive announced this when he and his District Engineer Mr Baba Issah Sulemana and other management staff conducted the media around the dam at Sachilbo.

Mr Mbambo indicated that 34 communities around Sachilbo would benefit from the dam, while waiting to receive their own in the near future.

The dam, he said would help their dry season farming and provide drinking water for their animals during the dry season.

According to the District Chief Executive, the Northern Region had perennial water shortages as a result of the long drought seasons and the construction of the dams would go a long way to help them to carry out their farming activities smoothly

Mr Mbomba stated that the contractor would move to Sheini to construct the second one immediately after completing the Sachilbo one.

Elder Thomas Kwame Baanyeh, a farmer of Sachilbo said they had been travelling six kilometres to River Oti to look for water and when the dam was completed their water problems would be solved for them and their animals.

He said they lose a lot of their livestock during the dry season due to lack of water and the coming of the dam would help them to expand their livestock production and increase dry season crop production.

He said some people were saying the One Village One Dam policy will not be possible but it is now a reality.
