Fire sweeps through Aluworks Cold Rolling Mill

Kpone, April 9, GNA - Fire swept through the Cold Rolling Mill of the Aluworks Limited at Kpone near Tema in the early hours of Sunday, causing extensive damaged to the mill and other vital items. There was no casualty.

The company's firemen who were later joined by a team of firemen from the Tema office of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority and the Tema Oil Refinery took about two hours to bring the fire under control.

Newsmen who rushed to the plant as early as 07.45 hours were refused entry by the security men on duty with the explanation that; "management say we should not allow you in so go and come tomorrow", although the management team was meeting inside over the incident.

Mr Theophilus Quaye, Station Officer at the Tema office of the GNFS, however, confirmed the fire outbreak to the Ghana News Agency on telephone and said his outfit was called in about 2.10 am and when they reached there men from the Company were fighting the fire with their own tender.

He stated that the fire was "well alighted" but could not immediately tell the cause nor the particular items that were damaged as they were still investigating.
