Ferry relocation: Be calm – Titus-Glover

Deputy Minister of Transport, Daniel Titus-Glover, has assured Ghanaians that the government will act swiftly to deal with the tension at Afram Plains in connection with moves to relocate the only ferry in the area to Yeji-Buipe.

Some residents of Afram Plains are set on a collision course with authorities of the Volta River Transport in disagreements over the relocation of the ferry.

The residents, who have vowed to resist the move, maintain the ferry is their only means of transportation through the Agordeke-Kpando-Torkor route.

It took the intervention of the police to stop scores of angry youth who had massed up at the offices of the Volta River Transport, from locking out officials.

But speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of the Ghana Yensom show on Accra 100.5FM on Tuesday, 28 November, Mr Titus-Glover said: “I want to assure the people that we will have a solution to that problem”.

“The MD of Volta River Transport is coming to my office, I have summoned a meeting to that effect for us to find a solution to the problem.

“I will go to Yeji and then move from there to Afram Plains and so they should be calm.”

Mr Titus-Glover added: “We live in a very civilised society and, so, I will appeal to the youth not to take the law into their own hands.”

The Member of Parliament for Afram Plains North, Betty Mensah Crosby, told host Forson that: “The people of Afram Plains are law abiding people and they will not take the law into their own hands, but they also have a right to protect what is theirs.”
