A total of 59 farmer-based groups in the Akatsi North District of the Volta Region have received bags of fertilizer under the government’s “Feed Ghana” programme.
The initiative seeks to accelerate the transformation of Ghana’s agricultural sector, ensure food security, create sustainable jobs, and promote economic growth by reducing import dependency while boosting domestic production and exports.
Bless Kwadzo Katamani, District Chief Executive (DCE) of Akatsi North, distributed the items at his residence. He expressed gratitude to the beneficiaries for supporting the government and the ruling party over the years.
He also thanked residents for giving him the opportunity to serve under the Mahama-led administration and called for inclusivity in nation-building irrespective of political affiliation.
Katamani assured that his office would continue to work towards development in the district, including improved road networks, hospitals, and potable water supply.
He disclosed that each beneficiary received a 50kg bag of fertilizer and two bottles of weedicides. He further commended Peter Nortsu Kotoe, Member of Parliament (MP) for Akatsi North, for donating the weedicides to support farming activities in the area.
Dr Richard Awudza, the NDC Constituency Chairman, urged farmers to also consider reducing the prices of foodstuffs as the government worked towards stabilizing the economy.
Some beneficiaries who spoke with the GNA expressed appreciation for the assistance and pledged to put the farm inputs to their intended use.
