Fair Wages Commission demands CBAs from MDAs by end of the year

Accra, Dec. 16, GNA - The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) has requested all public service institutions - Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) - to submit copies of their existing Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) or conditions of service to the offices of the Commission not later than December 31, 2009.

"This request is to all public institutions that fall under Article 190 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana and subsist on the Government's consolidated funds," it said in a statement issued in Accra. It said the information to be provided would facilitate the work of the FWSC in the implementation of the Single Spine Salary Structure, which is to take effect from January 1, 2010.

"In this connection, the FWSC is appealing to all MDAs to treat the request with the urgency it deserves."

The government on November 26 issued a White Paper accepting in principle the Single Spine Pay Policy (SSPP) aimed at restoring equity in public service pay administration and to ensure that in implementing the policy no one is left worse off.

The White Paper indicated that the new pay policy would be implemented in phases over a five-year period from the commencement date, with the first six months dedicated towards resolving any outstanding issues to evolve a lasting pay administration arrangement.
