Export Promotion Council trains exporters

Accra, March 11, GNA - The Ghana Export Promotion Council (GEPC), an export promotion agency, has embarked on a four-day training programme for exporters to enable them keep abreast with the dynamic changes in the global market.

The training also aims to stimulate the interest of persons to see the export sector as a profession.

Mr Samuel Brew, Head of Training GEPC, told the Ghana News Agency in Accra that the programme sought to encourage beginners and those who were already in the export trade to upgrade themselves in order to meet the challenges of the competitive export market.

"We do this every quarter to bring to the attention of exporters, trade information to enable them conform to requirements and standards of the various segments of the market," he said.

Mr Brew said some exporters in the Volta, Western and Eastern regions had also benefited from the training and this year, those in the Northern and Central Regions would be covered.

He said the training had brought to bear on the exporters the need for good planning and information on the export projects they might want to embark on. Mr Brew said the training had also brought to the fore the challenges of pricing, supply constraints and finance being faced by exporters. Some of the topics being discussed at the training include costing and pricing, export financing, risk management, market research and the ECOWAS Trade Liberalisation scheme.
