The Environmental Service Providers Association (ESPA) has urged its members to suspend their planned nationwide strike following positive engagements with the government over unpaid arrears.
In a statement released on Thursday, ESPA said the Minister of Local Government and Religious Affairs, Ibrahim Ahmed, had initiated urgent dialogue with the association’s leadership to address outstanding payments owed to waste management service providers.
"The minister has assured us of the government's commitment to process and settle the arrears owed to service providers within the shortest possible time," the statement read.
In light of these assurances, ESPA’s National Executive Council, led by Executive Secretary Ama Ofori Antwi has called on all member companies to continue normal operations instead of embarking on the strike initially scheduled for November 7, 2025.
“ESPA appreciates the patience and cooperation of all service providers who continue to deliver essential sanitation services under difficult circumstances,” the statement said.
It added that the association remains confident ongoing discussions will yield a sustainable resolution to stabilise the sector and protect jobs.
The group also encouraged members to remain calm, united, and refrain from any action that could disrupt waste collection while talks with the government continue.
