Businessman and philanthropist Dr Kofi Amoah has offered what he calls "soft advice" to the Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, urging him to remain focused and vigilant as he works to steer Ghana’s economy toward stability.
Dr Amoah’s commendation follows recent comments by the Finance Minister, who shared updates on Ghana’s economic progress during engagements with investors and the business community.
The finance minister announced last week that, “I had the opportunity to engage with investors, share updates on Ghana’s economic progress, and reaffirm our commitment to fiscal discipline and macroeconomic stability."
"I assured them that the cedi has remained relatively stable and has begun appreciating since last week. Our reserve position is strong, currently covering over four months of import needs,” he added.
According to Dr. Amoah, affectionately called Citizen Kofi, the early indications from Ato Forson and the way he is going about his work suggest that he means well for Ghana.
In a post on X, Citizen Kofi urged the young politician not to be distracted along the way but to stay the course and help President Mahama reset the economy of Ghana.
Dr. Amoah added that, for the Finance Minister to make major inroads in his work, he must ensure that “spending Ministries and Agencies are transparent with their expenditures and that padding of costs and budgets are caught early on and dealt with pronto!”
He further cautioned the Finance Minister to be wary of politicians, warning that not every appointee is patriotic.
He also opined that, as a country, Ghana has all the trappings of a nation that can and should be prosperous.
“If we move forward together, de-tribalized, non-partisan, fully engaged on full throttle with the true determination (not half-hearted) to involve Ghana’s presently enormous human capital at home and globally, Ghana can soar up, up and upwards with the best in the world… where we belong! But this will require jettisoning the politicians’ fake and insincere platitudes of ‘let’s work together’ designed for public consumption only,” he added.
