Donkorkrom: Agric Department receives 17 motorbikes

The Kwahu Afram Plains North District’s Department of Agriculture has received 17 motorbikes from the government. The motorbikes were part of CIDA (Canadian International Development Agency) support to modernizing agriculture and supporting the Government flagship programs.

Presenting the motorbikes to the Department at Donkorkom, the District Chief Executive for Kwahu Afram Plains North, Mr. Samuel Kena said the gesture was in fulfilment of the government’s commitment to develop the sector. He said this would empower Ghanaians to embrace agriculture.

He said the government sees agriculture as an avenue when harnessed shall create wealth for the people, thus the introduction of flagship programs like ‘Planting for Food and Jobs’ and ‘Planting for Export and Rural Development’. However, for Government to realize these, there is the need to provide resources and logistics .The donation therefore attests to the priority government places in the development of agriculture in the country.

The District Chief Executive, whilst handing over the bikes, also appealed to the staff to use the bikes for the intended purpose of supporting the flagship programs and agriculture in general. He said the donation of pick up vehicles and motorbikes across the country should motivate them to reach the far to reach areas and offer agric extension services.

The District Agric Director, Mr. Philip Azidoku expressed appreciation to the government for the gesture. He said a total of 9 permanent staff as well as 7 NABCO staff have equally being posted to the department. He assured the DCE of periodic maintenance of the bikes as well as using them for the intended official purpose.
