Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDA’s), have been told to avoid rushing to terminate jobs awarded on contract.
Mr. Kwaku Agyeman Manu, Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament, said they should stick to laid down regulations and guidelines on contract management.
It is always better to pay the contractors and push them to complete the projects.
Besides, it is also important to give priority to the completion of on-going projects before, taking steps to begin new ones.
He gave the advice at the on-going public sitting being held by the Committee in Kumasi on the Auditor-Generals Report.
MMDA’s indicted by the Report for acts of financial malfeasance in Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo Regions have been appearing before it to answer for their acts of omission and commission.
The Committee chastised the Jaman South District Assembly for misapplying the National Youth Employment Fund.
It had used part of the fund for funerals, religious festival celebration and durbars, in clear breach of the guidelines.
The Committee said that was completely unacceptable.
The PAC cleared the air over media reports that Assemblies in the two regions could not account for GH¢ 48.4 million, saying, the media got it all wrong.
According to Alhaji Ibrahim Dey Abubakri, the Ranking Member, said the figure was the total for all the Assemblies across the nations.
