Foreigners in Libya to register within one month

Accra, March 19, GNA - All foreign residents, including Arabs residing or working in Libya are to register at the nearest police station within one month from their day of entry. New arrivals are also to register within one week from the day of entry, the Libyan authorities in Accra said on Monday.

A statement from the Libyan Embassy in Ghana said, such nationals would be issued green or red identity cards irrespective of their purpose of entry but rather according to their status.

The statement explained that the green identity card would be issued to those already working in the private and public sectors while new arrivals yet to work would be subjected to approval by the department for Workforce, Training and Employment.

It however noted that those who fell under categories stated under Article 22 of Act 6 of 1987 on the regulation of entry and residence of Foreigners in Libya and their exit from it shall be exempted from obtaining ID cards.

The statement stressed that those who flout the law would be arrested and repatriated at their own expense.

It added that the enforcement of the law aimed to stop its violation and the negative social, health and security effects.
