Danpong Hospital has officially commissioned a state-of-the-art Emergency, Special Care, and Premium Service Centre at its Spintex Road facility in Accra. This major expansion project is aimed at easing congestion and enhancing the quality of patient care at its primary facility.

Speaking at a short commissioning ceremony, Medical Director of the facility, Dr Seth Amega Setsoafia explained that the new centre was established to provide a fully dedicated space for emergency cases, separate from the busy Out-Patient Department (OPD) and general wards.

With patient numbers steadily increasing and services expanding, he noted that the need for a specialised emergency environment became a top most priority.

“Until now, emergency cases were managed alongside OPD and ward patients because we did not have a dedicated unit. This new centre ensures that emergencies are handled in the appropriate setting, significantly improving efficiency and patient outcomes,” Dr. Setsoafia said.

The newly commissioned facility features a dedicated isolation ward for infectious cases, designed to minimize the risk of cross-infection and safeguard vulnerable patients. It also houses a premium ward tailored for individuals seeking express care, with a strong emphasis on privacy, comfort, and a serene healing environment.

The spacious rooms are thoughtfully designed with modern amenities, including kitchen facilities and coffee makers, to enhance convenience and overall patient experience.

The centre includes a special care unit dedicated to patients living with chronic conditions such as cancer and diabetes, ensuring focused and continuous medical attention. Two floors are devoted to premium services for corporate executives, high-profile clients, and individuals who prioritise discretion and privacy. With lift access, attached consulting rooms, and separate entry points, patients in this section can receive care without passing through the general OPD.

Dr Setsoafia further highlighted that the emergency unit is fully equipped with modern resuscitation tools, defibrillators, Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), and essential medications.

He, however, expressed confidence that the expansion will enable the hospital to deliver high-quality care at moderate and competitive fees, while encouraging the public to take advantage of the improved services.

Reflecting on how far the hospital has come in serving patients within the Spintex enclave, the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Fred Golo noted that it began nearly three decades ago as a small pharmacy before relocating its head office to Spintex Road.

He described the expansion as part of the hospital’s broader responsibility to give back to the community by improving access to quality healthcare.

He added that over the past 25 years, the increasing number of patient numbers and feedback regarding long waiting times underscored the need for expansion.
The CEO also added that the hospital is also automating its laboratory services to enhance efficiency and speed up case processing.

Although privately owned, Mr. Golo emphasised that Danpong Hospital remains committed to maintaining moderate and competitive charges.
