Competent human resources needed for energy delivery – ECG boss

Mr Samuel Boakye-Appiah, Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has said, energy supply to homes and industries on the African continent is not an option but a necessity.

To that end, he said there is the need to train more competent engineers, technicians, technologists, researchers to go into the area of energy delivery.

He stated that the ECG training school is being repositioned as Centre of Excellence for training in electricity distribution and renewable energy in West Africa sub-region and beyond.

Mr Boakye-Appiah was speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2019 AFRICON hosted by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the world’s largest professional association dedicated to advancing engineering and technology for the benefit of humanity at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

The Ghana section of IEEE is hosting this year’s 3-day conference on the theme: Powering Africa’s Sustainable Energy for All Agenda: The Role of ICT and Engineering.

He said: “The ECG training School is being repositioned as Centre of Excellence for training in electricity distribution and renewable energy in West Africa sub-region and beyond.

“I believe that Powering Africa’s sustainable energy for all agenda can only be achieved through competent human resources and ECG training school will support IEEE’s efforts by providing capacity development for engineers, technicians, technologists, researchers and related disciplines.

“Sustainable energy delivery in Africa is not an option. Sustainable energy is key to technological, social and economic development of the continent.”
