Coconut Grove Sakumono Hotel, the newest addition to the Coconut Grove chain of Hotels was adjudged the best 1 Star Hotel in Ghana for the year 2018 during the Ghana National Tourism Awards in Accra.

This comes after winning the best 1 Star Hotel of the Year 2018 in the Regional Level, after a rigorous scrutiny by the Regional and National Jury as well as mystery shoppers from the Ghana Tourism Authority.

With Coconut Grove Hotels’ tagline, ‘Memories Worth Repeating’, it was not surprising that the relatively new entrant to the Hoteliers Association scooped the award ahead of their long standing contemporaries.

Picking up the award on behalf of Coconut Grove Sakumono Hotel, General Manager, Ms Roberta Torkornoo thanked President and Senior Vice President of Groupe Nduom, Dr. and Mrs. Nduom for giving them the opportunity to exhibit the individual potentials of the staff, she was particularly grateful to board chairperson of the hotel, Mrs Yvonne Nduom for her guidance and mentorship that has brought the hotel to a glorious start.

‘First of all, I would like to acknowledge Dr. and Mrs. Nduom and dedicate this award to them for their unflinching support and guidance throughout the years. They have been a pillar whose shoulders we have stood to be able to achieve this feat. They guided and supported us while directing us to the right things and if we are here, it’s all because of them’.

'I will also want to thank the management and staff of Coconut Grove Sakumono Hotel, the hotel is just a building and without dedication to duty by the staff, we couldn’t have chalked this success. This has gone a long way to re-echo our mantra of ‘Memories Worth Repeating’ and so we say Ayekoo to all the staff’, she said.

Ms. Torkornoo remarked that, although the award is a proud moment for them, it also serves as a benchmark for which they cannot fall below. To her, the award places greater responsibility on them to always model the way for industry practitioners, as is always said by our board chairperson Mrs. Yvonne Nduom in her quest to encourage management and staff to continuously improve on standards and “WOW”our client, she taught us that “yesterday’s laurels are today’s compost” and we are ready to live to that saying.

According to Ms Torkornoo, due to the fact that they serve customers with fresh food from the hotels garden people now prefer to have their conferences, dinners and memorable occasions at Coconut Grove Sakumono Hotel a phenomenon she is very proud of.

She says analysis of client database shows that the hotel has been able to retain their customers who continue to refer them to new clients.

To be able to serve people better, she disclosed that by the middle of 2019, a new block made up of 16 apartments will be ready to serve clients that come in for long stays. This she says, will give the patrons a real feeling of a home away from home experience.

Coconut Grove Sakumono is one of six hotels under the Coconut Grove Hotels.

It had its soft opening on 26th September, 2016 and secured their business
operating license from the Ghana Tourism Authority in 2018. For their short stay in the industry, the hotel has made a telling impact on the Ghanaian tourism industry with this award being the latest of many recognitions from industry players.
