Over 3,000 cocoa farmers in the Asunafo South District of the Brong Ahafo Region have threatened to blacklist licensed cocoa buying companies who are cheating them by adjusting their weighing scales.

According to the cocoa farmers, the attitude of these purchasing clerks was affecting their work.

Speaking at the launch of the Asunafo South Cocoa Farmers Association, Secretary of the Association, Solomon Osei, said some licensed cocoa buying companies were cheating them.

He said the Association has been formed to be the mouthpiece for cocoa farmers in the area.

“Some of the licensed cocoa buying companies operating in this area are cheating the farmers here by adjusting their weighing scales.

Farmers measure their cocoa before these companies come to buy but the measurement changes after the companies measure. We have observed that they always adjust their scales,” Mr. Osei urged.

Aside from this, the farmers also accused Agro Chemical Companies of selling inferior and expired inputs to them.
