Coca-Cola Equatorial Africa donates to chools at Pakro and Adieso

Coca-Cola Equatorial Africa has presented toiletries to six schools at Pakro and Adeiso in the Eastern Region, as part of activities to mark World Water Day.

The beneficiary schools in Pakro were the Methodist Basic School, Presbyterian Basic School, Roman Catholic Basic School and Anglican Basic School.

The others are the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Junior High School (JHS) and Roman Catholic Primary Schools at Adieso.

The items include 3,000 drinking cups, 560 pieces of toilet rolls, six cartons each of liquid Sunlight, detergents, antisecticides, 3,000 Napkins, 18 crates of Coca-Cola and seven crates of Minute Maid drinks.

The Company also established water treatment plants, toilets and a facility to turn waste into biogas in the schools and communities under the Safe Water for Africa (SWA) Partnership.

Last year, Coca-Cola Equatorial Africa, Diageo Foundation and Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited (GBBL), International Finance Corporation Group (IFC), WaterHealth International and SWA launched an innovative collaboration in Ghana to bring safe, clean drinking water to two million people across Africa by the end of 2013 with an initial focus on Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

Since the launching, Coca-Cola Equatorial Africa, in partnership with SWA has provided clean, safe drinking water to the people of Pakro and Adeiso in the Eastern Region and Nsuta in the Ashanti Region, all funded by Coca-Cola Equatorial Africa.

Mr Philippe Ayivor, Public Affairs and Communication Director of Coca-Cola Equatorial Africa said, Coca-Cola Systems contributed $2.5 million, whist Diageo Foundation and GGBL contributed two million dollars.

He said, the donation was part of their corporate responsibilities to support communities in need of basic social amenities, saying that, “This donation is to complete the task of providing water and toilet facilities for the pupils.”

Mr Ayivor said, Coca-Cola Systems was committed to working with Diageo Foundation and GGBL to build 50 water treatment plants and toilets in Ghana for communities in need of these amenities.

Mr Jude Owusu, Headteacher of Pakro Roman Catholic Basic School, said the donation would go a long way to help keep good hygienic conditions in the schools and hope Coca-Cola Systems would assist in other sectors in the communities.

He expressed appreciation to Coca-Cola Systems and appealed to other organisations to emulate them.

Ms Merry Ofosu, a teacher at SDA Junior High School on behalf of schools in Adeiso thanked the company and assured them that the items would be well utilised.**
