Christmas fever pushes biscuit prices up

It has always been the norm that prices of goods shoot up in the days leading to Christmas and the New York and the story is not different this year.

A market survey conducted by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Wednesday revealed that the price of a small box of Piccadilly biscuits has risen from GH¢8.00 to GH¢10.00.

Danish cookies, which was sold for GH¢30.00 before the Christmas, are now going for GH¢45.00.

Madam Adwoa Serwaa, a shop owner of Lee-Mart, said the price of most biscuits had gone up.

Mad Mary Bala, a shop owner of God’s Time Enterprise, told the GNA that she was making brisk business.

Mr Albert Oduru, owner of Amazing Grace mini mart, expressed unhappiness about the slow pace business activities were going on in most business centres and markets in Accra and its environs.

On clothing, when the GNA visited the Central Business District of Accra to find out if there have been changes in the prices and the rate at which people were patronizing these items it was revealed that the patronage of the boys’ clothing was very as compared to that of the girls.

Mrs Alice Odartey, a trader in children’s clothing, mothers bought African prints to sew dresses for their daughters instead of buying already sown ones.

Mad Amerley, a trader in children’s shoes, said business was good.
