The prices of cement products have increased substantially in the northern regional capital, Tamale.
Within three days, a bag of cement which was sold at GH¢ 19 is now selling between GH¢ 22 and GH¢ 24.
Regardless of the brand, the prices are equal and there appeared to be shortage of the products at some of the distribution depots in the Tamale metropolis. Obviously, the price hikes have affected building and road contractors as well as private developers.
It is against this backdrop, members of NDC youth group known as 007 have served notice of a possible demonstration in the Tamale metropolis if the prices are not reversed.
The group’s Chairman, Abdullah Inusah in an interview with Citi News claimed the increment was meant to tarnish government’s image.
Ahead of the demonstration, he hinted of the group’s intention to lock up some of the cement distribution depots in the Tamale metropolis if the current prices are not inverted.
