Capacity workshop for central bank officials

Accra, Oct 28, GNA -A two-day capacity building workshop for Central Bank officials from the West African Sub-region opens in Accra tomorrow, Wednesday October 29 under the auspices of the West African Monetary Institute (WAMI).

Briefing the Ghana News Agency in Accra, Mr R.D. Asante, Technical Advisor of WAMI said the workshop has become vital as a means of making central bank officials in West Africa come to terms with what WAMI is and its objectives.

He noted that WAMI has come a long way since it its inception, adding that it was important that persons who will be operating within its ambit are conversant with it fully.

Topics to be treated include Progress and challenges of the WAMI, multilateral surveillance in the West African Monetary Zone, Overview of the Legal Framework of WAMZ, Implications of the Statute of the West African Currency Board, Building Capacity for Monetary Integration and the Role of Stakeholders of the WAMZ Programme among others.

Speakers at the Workshop will be Mr Asante, Mr John Obaseki, Policy Advisor at WAMI, Mr Hussein Thomasi, Director Legal and Dr Chris Itsede, Director-general of the West African Institute of Financial and Economic Management.
