CEPS bans overland importation of containers

Accra, Sept. 12, GNA - The Customs, Excise and Preventive Service (CEPS) on Wednesday banned overland importation of containers because of abuses in its trade.

Major-General Richardson E. Baiden, Commissioner for CEPS in a signed statement said the importation of mechanized containers overland saying, "it had been fraught with gross abuses to the detriment of security and revenue."

Major-General Baiden said to check the abuses it has become necessary to institute measures to forestall the leakages in the system. "With immediate effect all importation of containers overland is absolutely prohibited."

He said "All such importations by containers must be channelled through the Tema and Takoradi Ports except for textiles which should be imported through only Takoradi Port as previously directed.
