Business activities in Takoradi are still slow after the general elections on Wednesday.

Shops and stores which hitherto did not open on Wednesday all opened on Thursday to sell their goods and wares to buyers and sellers.

A visit to the Central Business District in Takoradi specifically the Takoradi Market Circle shows that there are no brisk activities going on there.

Most shops have tune their radio to the various Frequency Modulation (FM) stations to listen to the election results that are coming in from the collation centres.

Madam Araba Cudjoe, a cosmetic shop dealer tells B&FT that sales have not been encouraging as at 1:20pm – it is only one rexona deodorant that has been bought since morning.

At the second hand cloth sellers area popularly called ‘Eburufum’ most of the shop owners were seen sitting idle, confused, worry and glued to their radio sets to listen to the election result.

Kojo Boakye says- we are still waiting the Electoral Commission to declare the provisional result to enable us know our fate. Some of us could not open our bales to sell on Wednesday since this place was very quiet; we are hoping to make sales when the result is declared.

However at some food joints and drinking spots within Takoradi, there were brisk activities going on. The volume of the speakers connected to their television and radio stations were very high and some New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters were seen dancing for victory even though the results have not been declared.

Paul Yankey , an NPP supporter says “I am happy and celebrating our party’s victory although the EC has not officially declared the result, we have won most of the Parliamentary seat.

Nyamekye Botsio, an electrician believes that until the results are declared by the EC, there is no need for people to jubilate what if the results turns the other way round, we have 72 hours to hold on for the EC to officially declare the result.
