Ghanaian appointed new Chief Justice for the Gambia

Accra, July 13, GNA - Mr Justice Stephen A. Brobbey, a Supreme Court Judge, has been appointed Chief Justice of the Republic of the Gambia. Mr Justice Brobbey, 63, who leaves Ghana on July 31 to take up his new appointment, is on secondment from the Ghana Judicial Service to the Judicial Service of the Gambia.

In a farewell call on President John Agyekum Kufuor at the Castle, Osu on Tuesday, Mr Justice Brobbey pledged to perform creditably to justify the confidence reposed in him by the Government and the Judicial Service.

He said it was ideal to work for a sister country within the West Africa Sub-Region to improve on their judicial system for the benefit of the people within the Sub-Region.

President Kufuor said: "It is joy to reflect that a Ghanaian has been appointed to the high office of Chief Justice in a sister country with similar judicial system to improve on their performance."

He said with the improved unity and confidence among member countries of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) the appointment of Mr Justice Brobbey would form the impetus to build a judicial system that would be beneficial to the entire Sub-Region.
