Bright Star Shipping Line to Start Operations

A Ghanaian owned vessel will soon start operation to help boost the country's foreign exchange earning.

The Company to run the vessel, Bright Star Shipping Line, has already received its registration and business certificates.

Nana Opoku Agyeman III, Adwumakase-Kesehene and a Director of the Company, made this known in a press release issued in Kumasi.It said the government's efforts at making Ghana the gateway to West Africa has made it become necessary for the establishment of a Ghanaian shipping line. Freight charge from cargo "to and from Ghana" is about 350 million dollars a year.

The cargo carried by Ghanaian vessels will earn Ghana $70 million annually. Apart from factors like employment generation and conservation of foreign exchange, Ghanaian vessel could be of enormous benefit, in times of emergency evacuation.
