Booomers International, a leading bamboo bicycle manufacturer in Ghana has won the SME of the year award at the maiden edition of the Prestigious UK Ghana Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards. The award was in recognition of the performance and impact of the company in the year 2016. Other nominees in the category were Vokacom, Express Pay, and Addai Cutlass.
This is the second award for the company in a period of 2 months. In October, the CEO of Booomers was honoured by the owner and founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, Mr. Tony Elumelu for an award in recognition of the impact Booomers is making in the communities through the provision of jobs and livelihoods in rural Ghana. The award was presented by the Vice President of Nigeria, His Excellency Mr. Yemi Osinbajo.
Booomers has strived to become a leading company in the Bamboo Bicycle industry. This is currently considered the biggest in Africa with distributors in over 6 countries. The company is making plans to launch the product in the UK very soon as well as in North America. The CEO, Kwabena Danso said such awards only come to encourage you to do more and not to relax. “When you get recognition, it only tells you everyone is watching and so you need to work hard”, he said.
The UK Ghana Chamber of Commerce is an organization of UK and Ghanaian companies and the main aim of the foundation is to foster trade between the two countries. DecoKraft, a local Ghanaian chocolate making company also won the ENGINE graduate of the year award.
