BoG First Deputy Governor proceeds on leave

The First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Maxwell Opoku-Afari, has proceeded on leave ahead of the completion of his contract.

A notice issued by the Central Bank stated that his leave takes effect from February 5, 2025.

"This has received the approval of H.E. President John Mahama," the notice said.

Dr. Opoku-Afari was first appointed as Deputy Governor on August 7, 2017, for a four-year term and was reappointed for a second term on August 7, 2021.

In accordance with the Bank of Ghana Act, 2002 (Act 612), as amended, his contract was set to end on August 6, 2025, after serving two full terms—the maximum tenure allowed under the Act.

"The Bank of Ghana thanks Dr. Opoku-Afari for his service to the Bank and the Republic and wishes him well in his future endeavors," the notice concluded.
