Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai to miss revenue target

The Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai District Assembly from all indications is more likely to miss its projected revenue target of GH¢6.9 million set for the year. It had as of the close of October, managed to collect GH¢2.9 million, representing about 43 per cent.

Total expenditure, on the other hand, came to GH¢3.03 million, which was 52.63 per cent of the GH¢5.7 million it had estimated to spent in 2013. Mr. Joe Adansi-Bondah, the District Chief Executive, said although the performance could not be said to be encouraging, it was quite significant looking at the real situation on the ground.

He was addressing an ordinary meeting of the assembly at Bibiani. The DCE said notwithstanding its limited financial resources, it had implemented a number of development projects, which had helped to improve the lives of the people.

He cited the construction of classroom blocks at Alata, Bibiani, Kwawkrom and Adobeawura- Number Two, sinking of boreholes and installation of overhead tanks at Dominibo and Nkronua, washrooms at Kojina and a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound at Asempaneye as examples.

Mr. Adansi-Bondah said tackling huge piles of uncollected refuse, particularly in Bibiani and Sefwi Bekwai, had become a major difficulty to the assembly. This had been compounded by the lack of funds and that everything was being done to get a firm handle on the situation.

He told the meeting that tremendous progress had been made in the battle to stop the destruction of water bodies and farmlands through illegal mining. All illegal gold miners had been chased out the district.
