PTAs and SMCs should avoid struggling for supremacy

Adeiso (E/R), Sept. 6, GNA - Parent/Teacher Associations (PTAs) and School Management Committees (SMCs) have been called upon to avoid struggling for supremacy, that jeopardise the smooth running of educational institutions.

Mr Emmanuel Acquaye, the Director of Basic Education Division of Ghana Education Service (GES) gave the advice in an open day celebration of Free Heart Preparatory Junior Secondary School at Adeiso in the West Akim District of the Eastern Region.

The ceremony coincided with the commissioning of computer laboratory.

He asked the PTAs, SMCs and School Managements to reposition themselves on their roles as stakeholders and address themselves to the concerns and welfare of their schools.

The Director emphasised that the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) had been lauded since education, he said, is an indispensable tool, the bedrock and contribute to manpower development which paves the way for national progress.

He said education eradicates ignorance, hunger, disease, misery and paves the way for sustainable human development.

Mr Acquaye emphasised that the government is leaving no stone unturned to make education accessible to every Ghanaian child and said for the government to achieve its goal the private sector should invest in the delivery of education since they are the engine of growth of the economy.

Touching on contact hours, he appealed to teachers to observe the hours judiciously since quality education is meant to inculcate good moral values in children.

The Director appealed to teachers to live moral lives for their pupils to emulate.
