AirtelTigo partners Huawei on US$30 million network modernization project

Telecommunications operator, AirtelTigo has partnered Huawei Technologies on a $30 million network modernization project (NMP) aimed at providing faster internet experience to customers.

The project, designed in phases will commence this month, June 2019, starting with 26 locations in Greater Accra.

The entire project is expected to end in October 2019.

In a media workshop held on Monday, June 24, 2019, at the Huawei Office in Accra, Chief Executive Officer of AirtelTigo, Mitwa Kaemba Ng’ambi noted that this project is aimed at making life simple and better for customers.

“We are seeing a significant growth in internet usage among our customers. We recognize that this growing demand is in line with the overall increase of internet penetration in this country. This further network modernization exercise is our response to this demand and part of our quest to make life better for our customers. We are excited to be part of the digital transformation journey that Ghana as a nation is on”, she said.

She added, “We are pleased to be collaborating with Huawei on this project, a partner that brings a wealth of experience in this domain. We are confident that the project will run timely and with minimal service impact to customers. Customers are set to enjoy increased data speeds and an overall better experience once complete”.

She further assured customers in Accra of enjoying three times faster internet services when the project successfully ends in October; adding that, the Network Modernization Project would then be expanded to the Western and Ashanti regions.

Director of Project Management office of AirtelTigo, Joseph Koranteng noted that, when the project fully takes place, there will be a reduction in calls drop, there will be higher network availability which will lead to faster internet connectivity in Accra.

He averred that, as days draw closer for the project to take off, AirtelTigo will relay information to its customers a week before, 4 days and a day before the project will be rolled out.

The use of SMS, media announcements, calls among other forms of communication will be applied in reaching customers to be abreast with the NMP project.
