Airtel Ghana named Best CSR Company for Education

Airtel Ghana has been named Best CSR Company for Education at the 5th Ghana CSR Excellence Awards, which recognizes best practices in corporate social responsibility.

The award comes on the heels of other awards conferred on Airtel Ghana in recent times by Industry watchers and stakeholders.

Airtel Ghana has been a leader in contributing consistently to innovative solutions and strategies in education that transforms and empowers communities with initiatives such as the School Adoption Programme through which the Changemaker company adopted schools such as the Himakrom Methodist Primary and the Adaklu Aboadi Salvation Army School.

Other notable projects in education which Airtel has supported include investment in ensuring the establishment of the University of Cape Coast Medical School, Diagnostic Centre and also fostering Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education through its signature community engagement program called Airtel Catapult your Business.

Commenting on the award, Director of Legal and Corporate Affairs, Hannah Agbozo said “We are extremely proud to be recognized as a prominent contributor to the promotion of quality education for the good people of this country. This award is a validation of the effort we put in every day to transform education in Ghana”.

The Ghana CSR Excellence Awards in its fifth year is modelled after the European CSR Excellence Awards.

It is presided over by a multi-stakeholder jury with reputable representatives from academia, business associations, regulatory agencies, civil society organisations and the media.

The initiatives have helped demystify common misconceptions about CSR in Ghana, providing education and creating awareness about the global perspective of CSR within a local context.

The Ghana CSR Excellence Awards have collaborations and endorsement from the Association of Ghana Industries, Ghana Chamber of Commerce & Industries, Japan International Cooperation Agency, Plan International and Ministry of Trade & Industry.
