Ahanta GPRTU Credit Union records big savings

The Ahanta District Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) Co-operative Credit Union mobilized savings to the tune of GH¢ 298,461 in the first 10 months of its operation.

Mr Simmon Joseph Cudjoe, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Credit Union, said this at the first Annual General Meeting of the Union at Takoradi.

He said the Credit Union, however, recorded a loss GH¢4,895 during the period.

Mr Cudjoe said the Credit Union was inaugurated in September 4, 2012, to provide financial support to the transport sector in the Ahanta District of the GPRTU.

He said members of the Credit Union include auto mechanics and electricians, sprayers and people doing business at the lorry parks.

Mr Cudjoe said the Credit Union operates at all lorry parks in the Ahanta District of the GPRTU mainly through mobile bankers.

He said its financial services included saving deposits, granting of loans, share purchase, fixed deposits and saving for pension.

Mr Cudjoe said the Credit Union has 27 branches and its membership is made up of 388 males and 500 females.
