Africa Business Media, publishers of the Ghana Business & Finance magazine in partnership with the Ministry of Trade and Industry is organizing the second edition of the Ghana Economic Outlook and Business Strategy Conference to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to boost the country’s economy.
The conference is as a result of media reports on January 8, this year indicating that FDIs legally registered in the country for the first nine months of 2013 declined in value. Figures from Ghana Investment Promotion Center (GIPC), revealed that total FDI component recorded US$3,242.72 million, representing a decrease of 25.97% over US$4.38 billion recorded for the same period in 2012.
For the first nine months of 2013,144 projects were recorded by the Center compared with 102 projects recorded in 2012.
In a statement released by the Conference Secretariat today in Accra stated that, FDI can be a source of valuable technology and know-how while fostering linkages with local firms, which can help jumpstart the economy.
“Larger inflows of foreign investments are needed for the country to achieve a sustainable high trajectory of economic growth. FDI can have important positive effects on a host country’s economic development effort to direct capital financial supplies,” the statement quoted.
This year’s Conference is under the theme: Strategies to Attract Foreign Direct Investment and it is slated January 28, 2014 at the Best Western Premier Hotel, Accra strictly by invitation.
The event will be supported by Export Development and Agricultural Investment Fund (EDAIF) and Ghana Investment Promotion Center (GIPC).
