Africa World Airlines (AWA) has taken delivery of the first single-digit aircraft in addition to it's existing four planes.

In the history of Ghana, AWA will be the first airline to have bought a plane which is only a year old. As part of the only two domestic airlines surviving in the country, this is part of the company's numerous strategies to stay in business and ahead of the tough competition.

9G-AFJ, made by Embraer one of the leading plane manufactures, is the fifth plane bought by the company, just five years in Africa World Airlines has attained remarkable achievements and has played major roles in many event in the country and the sub region.

Founder and brain behind AWA, Togbe Afede XIV, In his speech during the launch of 9G-AFJ at the Accra International Airport stated that the company is glad to remain business despite the unfavourable conditions facing the sector and has led to the collapse of many domestic airlines.

He therefore announced that, by mid 2017 the company will be adding two larger planes (Airbus 319 series) to its fleet of aircraft, all things being equal. This and other expansions by AWA will enable it compete on the international market and in the end create more jobs which is the main objective of the company.

He expressed gratitude to the Ghanaian and Chinese government, shareholders stakeholders and staff for their enormous support.

Director General of Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, Simon Allotey also mentioned that arrival of this plane and other expansions in the near future will go along way to reduce airline fairs, bring comfort to customers and improve the transport sector. He urged the management of AWA to be innovative and explore other avenues in the airline field.
