AIA co-opts first African member to the council

Association of International Accountants (AIA) is pleased to welcome our first African member to the AIA Council. Mr Seth Ebenezer Kwaku Ganu, FAIA, traditionally known as Togbe Korku Ganu III, joins 16 Fellow AIA members, representing seven countries worldwide, who currently comprise AIA’s governing body.

Seth Ganu is currently Managing Director of First Corporate Options Limited. Incorporated in February 2011, First Corporate Options is a management, financial and investment consultancy based in Accra, as well as Weightron International Ltd, Europe’s largest weighbridge manufacturers, and Viset Unag Consult Ltd. Seth passed the AIA professional exams in 1972 and was admitted to Associate membership in 1974, becoming a Fellow in 1976. He has been a driving force for further recognition of the AIA in Ghana, and successfully achieved a mutual recognition agreement between the Association and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ghana. AIA President, Les Bradley welcomed his new colleague to the Council: “Seth has worked tirelessly and selflessly over a number of years to promote the AIA in Ghana. He has the best interests of the Association, and the profession, at heart and will be a valuable addition to the Council and to the continued growth and development of AIA.”

AIA is governed by its Council, who have the responsibility to ensure the delivery of the objectives as outlined in the constitution. The Council also directs AIA’s strategic objectives, monitors performance in relation to them, and oversees the annual budget. The Council encompasses members from key jurisdictions around the world, representing all AIA members and reflecting the Association’s global nature.

The Association of International Accountants (AIA) is recognised by the UK Government as a Recognised Qualifying Body for statutory auditors under the Companies Act 2006, as a Prescribed Body under the Companies (Auditing and Accounting) Act 2003 in the Republic of Ireland, and members qualified as a statutory auditor and registered with a Recognised Supervisory Body (RSB) are able to seek registration as a statutory auditor across the European Union. In the UK, AIA also has supervisory status for its members in the Money Laundering Regulations 2007 and has recognition to operate in the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) as an Awarding Body. The AIA professional qualification is currently recognised in over 80 countries worldwide.
