$5 Million Secured To Restore Accra- Tema Rail Lines

The Government has secured a five-million dollars soft loan from the Organization of Petroleum Exporting countries (OPEC) to rehabilitate he Accra-Tema railway tracks.

Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, Minister for Ports, Habours and Railways, (MPHR) announced this last Tuesday when he inspected the current state of the Accra-Tema railway track with a team of journalists.

He said the rehabilitation, expected to begin next month, would involve dredging of choked rail lines, replacement of deteriorated sleepers and fasteners and construction of bridges along the routes.

The visit which took the Minister to Asopronchona, Baatsona and Mile 6, was also meant to provide him with more information on the extent of damage to the rail line which was constructed in 1953.
